To remove the bolt from a Marlin Model 983S, first ensure the firearm is unloaded and pointed in a safe direction. Open the bolt by pulling it back and then push the bolt release lever, typically located on the right side of the receiver. While holding the lever, continue to pull the bolt to the rear until it comes free from the receiver. Always consult the owner's manual for specific instructions and safety precautions.
