How do you unload a Winchester 1911 model?

FIRST AND FOREMOST ALWYA POINT THE GUN IN A SAFE DIRECTION!!!! Release the magazine from the gun. (If this gun had a detachable magazine, this would work.) If the hammer is cocked, and safety is on, take the safety off making sure to keep your fingers off of the trigger, then rack the slide to release the chambered round... (I think this is the heart of the question, how to rack the slide. On the Winchester model 1911 a chambered shell can be ejected by grasping the barrel at the knurled area and moving it back toward the butt of the gun. The nickname for this gun is the widow maker and the knurled barrel is the reason. I know of two scenarios where the action of moving the barrel can be performed in a dangerous manner. One I find hard to believe is placing the butt of the gun against a tree or fence post and using your chest to force the barrel back, you really have to be dumb to do this! The other way is by placing the butt on your foot and forcing the barrel back with your body over the muzzle, again you have to be pretty dumb to do this! The correct way is to rack the action as if the gun were a pump, ( it is an autoloader) but instead of grasping the forearm, you grasp the knurled portion of the barrel. Try doing this with a wet hand and I suppose you can see why the alternative actions were tried. Rack the slide again to be sure. Rack the slide AGAIN and now poke your finger around in the chamber and visually inspect it. Now you are unloaded.
