I have my Grandfathers springfield model 84c- and he is 89 years old. He told me he got it when he was 12 years old so that makes it 77 years old. Hope I could help. I am currently looking for a clip for it so if anyone has any info that would be great.
They were made between 1940-1948 from what I found. I know my father found clips for it in new york somewhere.
The Springfield Model 84 was made by J. Stevens Arms Company, Chicopee, Mass.
My Springfield model 83 ( J Stevens) is stamped 22 Short, Long and Long Rifle on Barrel. If yours is as well, then yes, it would fire LR rounds.
