A model 1904 is a single shot bolt action rifle.
In short, no. I have a single shot lever action Ithaca rifle, and a turn action Garcia Bronco .22. There have been auto ejecting single shots, and a LOT of bolt action single shots. The "trapdoor" Springfield rifle was not a break action.

The term carbine means a short barreled rifle. Some are semi-automatic, some fully automatic, and some are bolt action, lever action, pump action, etc. The M1 Carbine from WW II WAS a semi-auto.
The 223 is considered a Short Action rifle.
