The G3 is full auto, not semi-auto. Semi auto variants (such as the HK91) and clones (such as the Century Arms 'frankenguns' and the PTR-91) have been made.
The G3 itself doesn't meet the definition of an assault rifle - it falls short in not using an intermediate cartridge, and thus, falls under the category of battle rifle.
As for the BATFE definition of a 'civilian assault weapon', the semi-auto HK91s met that definition. However, to be considered as such, they have to have two or more of the following features:
So, technically, while a HK91 or clone would be an evil, horrible 'assault weapon' with the pistol grip, flash suppressor, and bayonet lug, it would not be if it had only one of those features (or none, as California's definitions includes any detachable magazine centerfire rifle with even one of those features).
Who made it? Bolt or semiauto? What do you want to know?

The M16A4 assault rifle is chambered for the 5.56x45mmNATO cartridge, which is of the .223 caliber.
Yes. There may be limits on the CALIBER, and PA does not permit semi-auto rifles for deer hunting, but other than that, the AR style rifle is nothing but a semiauto rifle.
Rifle or shotgun? What type of action; bolt, pump, semiauto, lever? What caliber or gauge?
The M16 is an assault rifle that is a .223 caliber / 5.56 mm. like any weapon it is only as accurate as its shooter, <><><> It can be very accurate.
If you mean the jacket, it all depends on the caliber and maker.
An assault rifle is a rifle that has more than 22'' inches of barrel and has selective firing rate, while the carbine rifle has a less 22'' inches barrel and semi automatic. ^^ Wrong.. An assault rifle is any select fire rifle that is chambered for an intermediate cartridge... Barrel length has nothing to do with it. The M16 has a 20" barrel length and is considered an assault rifle. The AK47 has a 16" barrel and is considered an assault rifle... Carbines that are select fire and chambered in an intermediate cartridge are still considered assault rifles.
There are several reasons a person may want to buy a 22 caliber assault rifle. * Inexepensive ammunition * Light recoil (does not kick hard) * Great looking target shooting weapon * Limited ballistic range when compared to higher caliber ammunition
Because without the assault rifle anycountry would need multiple different weapons for one situation.the Assault Rifle is the perfect adaption for long medium and close range combat with a proper caliber lethal at many ranges
Around 200 in mint as of 2009 it will go up in value being the first semi auto .22 rifle
Assault rifle is legally defined as a rifle having a detachable magazine, of intermediate rifle caliber(medium power) and selective fire. (machine gun). the Media has corrupted it to be anything.... AR=automatic rifle.
