Marlin still list them on their web site
Marlin has been bought out by Remington and moved the Marlin production facilities. They have had nothing but trouble since. Poor workmanship. No quality control. They say they are still producing the Papoose but are having "production problems".
I purchased one in November that had the front sight installed 7-10 degrees off from the top of the barrel. It was obvious right out of the box. I sent it in and was told I'd get a replacement. That will be five months ago this March 30th and still no rifle.
Papoose is the slang name for the 70p family of rifles. The original 70p is out of production. The newer 70pss is still available in the current 2013 Marlin catalog and continues to carry the papoose nickname. The 70pss uses a synthetic stock and stainless steel barrel but the mechanics and design of the rifle mirror the 70p and the rifle case is still branded with the papoose label. As for the original 70p with a wooden stock: The answer is No. The marlin model 70p was made from 1986-1995.
The Marlin model 70P (Papoose) was made from 1986-1994.With out a serial number it would not be possible to say the exact year of production.
No, still living
The Marlin model 336 was introduced in 1948 and is still currently in production. The model 336 is the second best selling high-powered rifle.
Somewhere between 1960 and today. Very popular rifle, introduced in 1960, still in production.
The Marlin Mod 25 production started around 1966 and is still sold as the 925. For the exact year of production of your firearm you will have to locate dedicated Marlin collectors. Manuals are available by download from Marlin's website: http://www.marlinfirearms.com/customersupport/manuals.aspx If you want an original, try eBay.
Nearly all current and out of production rifles can be rebarrelled. Original and drop in barrels can often be located, but as firearms become vintage such parts can become scarcities. Furthermore, skilled rifle makers and specialty gunsmiths are able to take barrel blanks and chamber-fit them.
Marlin Firearms was bought out by Remington Firearms. They then moved production out of New Haven Conn. In the last year there have been many reports of poorly manufactured firearms. I purchased a Marlin 70PT last year, Nov. 2011, through Gunbroker.com. The front sight had been installed at an angle and the micro-grooving was not cut in the barrel. I sent in in for repair. Marlin said they would replace the gun but I may not see it until March. Remington took over the repair. I knew the 70PT was no longer in production but they insisted it was. In March I contacted them again, they said, the 70PT was not being produced and would I like a 70PSS. But, I would have to wait because they've had "Production problems". It's been five months with no replacement in sight.
