Ammunition made in the US for the M-1 carbine was never corrosive, since the gas piston is NOT meant to be disassembled by the user- which corrosive ammo would require. Some Chinese ammo was made in M-1 carbine with fake headstamps that was VERY corrosive.
You can only use .30 carbine ammo or the European designation 7.62X33 ammo
Unsure if you are using Alpine as the name of the ammo or of the firearm. In early 1960s, firm maufactured M1 Carbines in California under the Alpine name. These used standard M1 Carbine ammo (aka 30 Carbine). Am not familiar with ammo maker by that name.

Are you referring to the M1 Garand, or the M1 carbine? A Garand can go anywhere from $500 to over $1000, all things dependent. An M1 carbine, generally, you'd be looking in the $400 - $700 range.
