The only way to be sure if it is safe to shoot is to have a gunsmith do a complete inspection. They will check things like headspace, any deep pitting, cracks, etc. Inspections are pretty cheap, and definitely way cheaper than a destroyed gun, eye damage, missing fingers, etc.
