Sig P6 change hammer spring:

First, make sure gun is unloaded. Remove the slide.

You can do this with simple tools as described below. Take your time. Read the following first before trying.

1. Remove the grips (two screws with washers each side).

2. Once you removed the grips, you'll see the mainspring on the "strut" at the back of the gun grip. Removed the mainspring strut (flat black metal piece with an angle and spring on it and pin at bottom) with flat headed screw driver. Put pressure on mainspring seat (L-shaped bracket with roll pin at bottom of strut). Move it around and you'll see how it sets in a slot on frame.

3. Once loose, pull strut down and out of frame with mainspring (hammer spring) still attached.

4. Using vice grips, compress spring, pull out roll pin with pliers.

At this point be ready as hammer spring is compressed and will expand suddenly as pressure on spring is released. Make sure you have the roll pin. (IF not, TopGunSupply or MidwayUSA carries replacements (hammer strut pin for P225 same thing). They also carry replacement struts and springs. Get the mainspring and mainspring strut described as "Old Style - pre 1999" for the P225. These will fit the P6.

5. Put new hammer spring on, use vice grips to compress spring, and insert the roll pin (hammer strut pin). You may want to experiment using the vice grips to compress the spring before fooling with the roll pin. May take a number of tries to do this step. Once you get the roll pin started, you can use a pair of pliers and force the roll pin into the hole. Use pliers at one end of roll pint and on strut to force start. Next, tap roll pin through the hole and flair the roll pin on each side.

6. Reinsert strut with hammer spring, again using a flat screwdriver. Compress spring just a little while pushing mainspring seat into slot.

Test action of hammer. Trigger should function as it normally does. If it binds then you don't have the strut inserted incorrectly.

Hope it works for ya! (Yes, I've done it and it works. Normal P225 hammer spring should be lite enough for you to notice a difference in the P6. Or, you could order even lighter hammer springs from Brownell's, but you may run into light primer strikes. ) As I said, this worked for me. If you try this and something goes wrong, don't come crying to me. Try it at your own risk or damage to your firearm.
