Okay. first I cannot find any reference to a Western Field "87." That doesn't mean there wasn't one, it just means that the records are incomplete. However, there definitely was a model 37 (=Mossberg model 30), an 807 (= Colt Colteer), and an MO87 (= Stevens M87). Good luck with this one, and post the sesults of your search so that we all know the answer.
Answerit is not necessarily "unique" but I've never seen one like mine before. it is a tube magazine .22 autoloader. that is with .22 lr. with the obsolite .22 long and .22 shorts it is a repeater kind of like a bolt action.it can be operated like a bolt action with all three varieties of ammo if one pushed in the bolt handle.it definitely says model 87 on the bbl. there are other letter and number combinations after that with patent nos on the receiver.
maybe this description will help those with knowlege of these guns id it. my late father had this rifle for as long as i can remember. I'm 51 so it's likely older than me. i shot it a lot as a kid, very accurate
Answeri just found a Springfield model 87A on Auction Arms that is a dead ringer for my WW model 87could this be the same rifle with a different name?
AnswerThe first answer has it right. The Western Field model 87 is a Stevens model 87 marked with a Montgomery Ward brand name. Savage/Stevens used the name Springfield from about 1920 to 1948. According to the Blue Book the model 87 series was made from 1938 to 1945.Western Field 48A was made for Montgomery Wards by Mossberg. The model 48A is a Mossberg 45B .22 caliber Long Rifle
Prewar Mossberg. $100.
The Western Field model 72 lever-action rifle was made by Mossberg and generally resembled the Marlin 336. These two rifles are not the same an no parts interchange EXCEPT for the scope mounts. The same bases that work on the Marlin 336 will work on the Western Field (or Mossberg or Revelation versions).
Should be a version of the Marlin 336. Wards sold the Marlin under the Western Field brand name through the 1960's until they switched to Mossberg in 1971.I've found that the Western Field Model 33A was made by Noble.
Most of the Western Field models cross reference to Mossberg, but there are several makers represented - Savage/Stevens, Marlin/Glenfield, Noble, Kessler, and even Remington and Colt.
Made by Mossberg, $150-$250.
My research indicates that this rifle was a Mossberg Mod. 46 which was manufactured in the late 1930's and early 40's
A Wards Western Field Model 41 is a 22-caliber rifle. It was actually manufactured by Mossberg, but intended for Wards. Manufacturing took place primarily from 1935 to 1939.
western field is/was a mossberg company
i have one my dad got it in the sixtys i need a clip for it though its a mossberg 353
Your Western field model 47c was made for Montgomery Wards(Western field) by the Mossberg firearms company. The Mossberg model 45A is the same firearm that you own.Mossberg made the model 45A from 1937-1938.They were chambered in 22 short, long, and long rifle caliber.
Impossible to answer without more information. Generally, Western Field rifles were made by Mossberg and Marlin, but some were made by FN and were Mauser actions.
