Although the 30-30 cartrige is reletively good out to 200 yards, (not much beyond that) the Savage arms bolt action was considered the better of the lot. The only real problem, as with a tube fed mag. the 340a had a slight issue with feeding "spire tip" ammo. (pointed tip soft point) I would cause the occasional jam during cycling. The 150 grn. blunts work well, and the rifling was tight. The combination of the bolt and rifling made this one reach out to 250 yards, and a slightly hire muzzle velocity from a factory round. (compared to a Glenfield or Marlin 30-30 lever action.) Bolt actions tend to be tighter and less frequent in the action/cycling mishaps. Shooters of all types have their favorites, this one is not my favorite, but it performs well.
