Do welders have licsenses to operate?

Welders Don't necessarily need licences or "tickets" as called in the trade, however , they do need tickets or certification for most welding , especially if the welding is being done on structures or anything people operate or ride in or on. Things that are ornamental in nature don't necessarily need a certified welder to weld on.

What are the safe working practices and procedures to be adopted when preparing the weld for examination?

One would want to clean their weld while preparing the welds for examination. Cleaning the weld is a safe working practice for welders.

I need to know what is the best(easiest) type of welders for a beginer who just wants to weld up a few small rust spots on an old truck. I will not do very much welding so don't want to put a lot of money into it.?

You can buy basic welders at Home Depot. they can also give you instructions. If this is simply for personal use you do not need any certification.

Where can you weld?

u cant weld anywhere hahahahahahahah Not nice. Some community colleges offer welding programs and/or classes. Get in good with instructor and you may have use of all the schools tools/welders/plasma cutters/band saws etc.

What is weld mapping?

Weld mapping are visible marks that are seen on metal welded parts. Either they are welded together or repaired and sometimes you can tell who welded it, and when the weld was placed. Weld mapping is the process of assigning information to a weld joint to enable easy identification of its design (WPS), production (welders, their qualifications, date welded), quality (visual inspection, NDT) and traceability (heat numbers of materials joined & welding consumables). Weld mapping should also incorporate a pictorial identification to represent the weld number on the fabrication drawing, in case the designer does not nominate a weld number. You can use online weld mapping software such as Smart Welding Manager to create weld maps that provide 100% traceability as well as a pictorial representation.

How long do you have to go to college to become a welder?

Welders do not ordinarily need to go to college. There are welding school but many welders learn on the job.

Can tig welders be used without gas?

Yes you will not get a "good" weld and it will not be strong The filler electrode used by TIG welder is usually bare and need a shield gas to shield off the atmosphere. Without shield gas, air gets into the molten weld usually produce defects called porosity (air pocket). Your finished weld is defective may not meet the strength. Without a shielding gas you will need more power to establish an arc and the weld puddle will be extremely contaminated (oxidized). The electrode (tungsten) will also be contaminated. You will find the arc wandering all over the place. Use a stick welder instead!

What is weld log?

A weld log is a Quality Managment tool that acts as a database used to keep an ongoing record of welds made during construction fabrication type projects. The Weld log is used to record Important information recorded as "weld number" Welders Stencils", "Weld Procedure", "Weld Type" Material Type" "Project#" and any other important information to ensure the traceability and Quality Assurance of each welded junction during fabrication or repair activities. The best example can be found here: http://sites.google.com/site/masterweldtracker/

What is the difference between ac arc and dc arc welding?

Both are shielded metal welders but differ in the electricity they use. Ac welders can weld heavier metal while dc welders are better for thinner metals. Ac welders can weld magnetized metals. Dc welders can not. The arc in an ac welder is harder to control because of the pulsating current. Dc welders are more expensive. Some welding machines offer both options.

Why would welders use helium and argon gases?

Welders use helium and argon gases because they provide a stable and inert environment during welding. Helium helps to increase heat input and penetration, especially in TIG welding, while argon helps to shield the weld pool from contaminants in processes like MIG welding. Mixing these gases can create a balance between heat input and weld quality.
