Grooves in a gun barrel, known as rifling, serve to impart a spin to the bullet as it travels down the barrel. This spin stabilizes the bullet in flight, improving its accuracy and range by minimizing wobbling. The specific pattern and depth of the grooves can also affect the bullet's interaction with the barrel, influencing factors such as velocity and trajectory. Ultimately, rifling is crucial for enhancing the overall performance of firearms.

Will the crosman 1760 SE shoot BB's?

This is a very fine rifle. To force it to shoot BB will only damage the barrel and would reduce the accuracy and value of the rifle. BB's are meant to be shot out of a smooth bore barrel. The 1760 SE has a rifled bore barrel. When a pellet is loaded into the rifle the soft skirt of the pellet conformed to the groves in the barrel. This action causes the pellet to spin as it travels down the barrel and fly very straight as it spins through the air. BB do no conform to the groves in the barrel so when a BB travels down the barrel under air pressure it tears and ruins the groves in the barrel damaging it beyond repair forever. Never shoot BB's in a pellet gun designed to shoot pellets only.

Can copper BBS be fired in a pellet gun?

If the Owners instructions say BB's or Pellets can be used it would be OK. But IF the Owners manual says Pellets. Then NEVER use BB's in a pellet gun. Oh they will work. But you will ruin the rifling in the pellet gun or rifle. Here is why. Good pellet guns have rifling in the barrel. (Little groves) that make the pellet spin as it is fired. Pellets have a soft skirt on the end that catches the air and conforms to these groves. This gives the pellet a spinning effect and adds to accuracy of the pellet. BB guns have a smooth bore barrel ( Like a straw) the BB is hard and tumbles down the barrel and is not as accurate as pellets. If a BB is used in the Pellet barrel it slowly destroys the grooves in the rifled barrel. It also leaves residue from the copper in the barrel. I've seen several good air rifles that have been ruined by the owner forcing it to shoot BB. It's a poor idea to do this to a good air gun.

What is the best bb for precision shots?

BB are inherently inaccurate. there is no best BB. The reason is the BB barrel is smooth and the BB tumbles as it is fired from the gun. Pellets usually are fired from a rifled barrel (One that has grooves in it) and they spin as they leave the barrel, making them more accurate. The only BB gun the I know of that spins the BB's is the Gamo P23, but you MUST use Gamo lead BB's. Lead is soft and conforms to the groves in the barrel just like a Pellet would. This makes the BB more accurate. Regular BB that are forced fired in a rifled barrel will destroy the rifling in the gun making it less accurate.

Why does a gun barrel rise?

The barrel is usually above the centerline of the gun. When fired, recoil pushes straight back from the line of the barrel, but that is offset above the centerline, and causes the gun to pivot.
