Breaking in a firearm refers to repeated firing of the weapon in order to produce wear in the friction areas of moving parts as well as the barrel. This is desirable in order to increase the reliability, and in some cases, accuracy of the firearm. Positive effects in reliability are the result of looser tolerances between the moving parts. Looser tolerances cause more play which results in better reliability but lower precision.
