NCIS contract calls for over 2,000 pistols to replace the aging fleet of refurbished M11 (SIG P228) pistols purchased more than 15 years ago. The contract represents the first pistol procurement for NCIS agents since the agency's inception. The new P229 and P239 models will be chambered in .40S&W and fitted with SIG SAUER'S exclusive DAK trigger system. http://www.thefirearmblog.com/blog/2008/04/21/ncis-upgrading-to-sig-sauer-40-sw-p229-and-p239-pistols/
It depends partly on the person shooting it. I've seen people shoot accurately at 100 yards with those types of guns, although it isn't very common.
Any dealer that carries Sig pistols should have one or be able to get one. Check Sig Sauer's website to find a dealer in your area.
A good quality pistol which you're comfortable with is always the starting point. If you're carrying ITW, you may have a particular emphasis on either a striker fired or DAO/DAK pistol, to eliminate the risk of the hammer catching on clothing.

There are a lot of factors that could affect its value. Its condition and options are the biggest factors. If it has the DAK trigger, it is worth more than if it only has a standard DAO or DA/SA trigger. If it has a frame rail, then it is worth a little more than if it doesn't. The type of sights it has could affect the value by about $100. If it is doesn't have any options and is in good condition, I would probably pay about $300-$500 for one. If it has the DAK trigger, rail, threaded barrel, new tritium/fiber optic sights, and is in excellent shape, then I would probably pay around $700-$900 for one. I would also pay a little more for one in .40 S&W or 9mm than for one in .357 Sig alone because used .357 Sig barrels usually sell for less than used .40 S&W barrels, and those 2 barrels are interchangeable. Of course, the number and type of magazines that come with it will affect the value as well. 10 round magazines are worth less than full capacity magazines.
