The Mauser rifle originated in Germany, and may have many features that aer found in European rifles. One of those features is the Schnabel, a distinctive shape to the front end of the stock forearm. Rather than a smooth taper, a schnabel is a raised bulge at the end of the wood- helps keep your supporting hand from sliding off the stock.
