To determine the age of a Springfield model 944 20 gauge single shot shotgun, check the serial number, which can often provide a date of manufacture; reference charts or databases specific to Springfield firearms can help with this. Additionally, examining the proof marks, design features, and any distinctive characteristics can provide clues about the production era. Consulting with a firearms expert or collector may also yield useful insights into the model's history.
At most about $35.00 if it is in good condition
That is hard to troubleshoot without seeing the gun. Try removing the foreend and dismounting the barrel from the receiver. Look at the ejector rod where it contacts the receiver and where it is pushed when the action is opened. You may well see what the problem is. You option is to take the gun to a gunsmith for inspection and/or repair.
