It depends on the condition, (if it is beat up or not), where and when it was built, and if the parts are all original. My M1 Carbine was $800, and it is in pretty bad condition. By the way, you might want to find out i the gun was ever restored, because lots of people like them in war-time condition. Almost all M1 carbines were built in WWII, but there are a few that were built in the 1950's and by people today. One thing to look for would be by the sight, there is a serial number and a word. In WWII, there were many manufacturers, so if it has an abbreviation that might be short for Inland Division, Winchester, Underwood Eliot-Fisher, Quality machine and Hardware, Rock-ola, Irwin Pederson, Saginaw Gear, National Postal meter, Standard products, or International Business Machine Corporation, it was almost for sure made in WWII. Another thing to look for would be on the barrel, there should be somewhere on there words that spell out where it was made which should be the same as the rest of the gun. Under it should have something like 3/44 for March 1944 or 6/43 for June 1943.
It should if it fits on other kinds of M1 Carbines.

The Universal M1 Carbine is a variant of the original M1 Carbine, which was first developed during World War II. Universal Firearms began producing its version of the M1 Carbine in the 1960s. Therefore, a Universal M1 Carbine would typically be around 50 to 60 years old, depending on its specific production date.
