You can call Remington at 1-800-243-9700 and go thru the menu selection. One of the menu options is to request information on your Remington based off the serial number. You read off your serial number and the guy looks up in the database the year the gun was made and what the original barrel was for that gun (if gun had barrel options like shotguns do).

To determine the age of your Remington 760 Gamemaster, you can check the serial number, which is typically located on the receiver. Remington used specific serial number ranges that correspond to years of manufacture; you can find charts online or in reference books that outline these ranges. Additionally, inspecting the features and markings on your rifle might help pinpoint its production period. If needed, you can also reach out to Remington or a firearms expert for assistance.
The model 760 "Gamemaster" with this serial number would have been manufactured between 1951 and 1967.Here is a breakdown of serial number blocks for that model:1951-1967: 1,000-541,0001968-1975: 6,900,000-7,499,9991975-1978: A6,900,000-A7,499,9991978-1981: B6,900,000-B7,499,999
I believe the B was the first half on 1980 but the best way to tell is to look at the date code stamped on the barrel. Check related links for looking these codes up on the Remington Society of America.
