Essex Arms
The Essex 1911 pistols are a series of firearms that emerged in the late 20th century as a result of the growing interest in customizing and building 1911-style handguns. Essex Arms Corporation, founded in the 1970s, became known for producing parts kits and frames that allowed gun enthusiasts to assemble their own 1911 pistols. These pistols, while not original Colt models, are often praised for their affordability and the flexibility they offer for customization. Over the years, Essex pistols have gained a following among hobbyists and competitive shooters, contributing to the enduring legacy of the 1911 platform.
Essex is a commercial manufacturer of 1911 frames and slides. They are not a military armory. You may be looking at the slide, which is often of military manf., and mated to an Essex frame. The company is known as "Essex Arms", and based in Hardwick, VT. They have been in business for over 30 years. Most appraisals would not benefit the real value of the pistol because we have no way of knowing who built it. There are many basement gunsmiths out there who threw these things together without the benefit of proper knowledge, and others turned out reliable shooters. Any shooter grade 1911 in good condition starts at $300.00. These can be the basis for good, reliable shooting pistols.
