I assume you mean hamon in which case, the hamon on a sword is a thin line near the edge-usually in a wavy profile. To the untrained eye, this might seem to be a flaw but it's a indication of how it was heat treated.

A sword having a proper hamon indicates that it was partially clay coated, differentially heat treated and chemical etched to bring the line out.
