Revolvers are typically more reliable than semi-auto. They only need to rotate the cylinder to get to the next round rather than rely on an ejector pin to grasp and remove the spent casing along with springs from the slide and magazine to also function properly. Revolvers simply can't jamb like a semi-auto. However, a well made semi-auto with proper ammunition in a properly maintained pistol can also be very reliable. Our military has used semi-auto handguns since 1911 hence the name used for John Browning's Colt 1911 .45 ACP. Currently our military uses a Beretta M92 in 9MM Parabellum (Luger) www.survivalblog.com has suggestions for survival and weapons.
