A cross pein hammer has a wedge shape at one end. It is used by metalworkers when they are forging. They use this type of hammer to make the metal stretch.

Examples: When forging one may want to bend the metal. By using a cross peen one can stretch the hot metal in such a way that it bends more easily because one sde is stretched a little more than the other. Also, there is such a thing as 'moving a hole.' This is done by stretching the metal between the two holes a little so the distance between them gets bigger. On an anvil there are some tools one can use like a cross peen hammer, they are called fullers. A lower fuller would be fitted into the hole in the anvil and the hot work placed above and hammered to get the stretching. Or one could use an upper fuller to work the hot metal from the top. Or they could both be worked together to get even more stretching. The cross peen could be used in the same way as these upper and lower fullers with an anvil.

With a cross peen the stretching of a flat bar can be controlled more easily than with a ball peen. Sometimes it might be more convenient to have the wedge shape vertical than across so one can stretch work that is placed in a different position more easily.

What is the functions of ball peen hammer?

A ball-peen (also spelled pein) hammer, also known as a machinist's hammer, is a type of peening hammer used in metalworking. It is distinguished from a cross-peen hammer, point-peen hammer or chisel-peen hammer by having one hemispherical head and one flat head. Though the process of peening has become rarer in metal fabrication, the ball-peen hammer remains useful for many tasks, such as striking punches and chisels.A ball peen hammer is for shaping metal sheet.

What is the function of a cross pene hammer?

A cross peen hammer is a type of hand tool used primarily in metalworking and woodworking. Its distinctive feature is the flat face on one side and a tapered, wedge-shaped peen on the other, which is useful for shaping and bending metal. The cross peen allows for precision striking in tight spaces and can help create grooves or indentations. This versatility makes it valuable for tasks like riveting, forging, and general assembly work.
