the model 1898 shotguns in 12 guage are alomost commin in comparison to the 16 guage. the 16 guage is so rare that virtually no information on the gun is offered. Marlin has no records of these guns what so ever and the price on these are normally low, say around 150.00 because the person selling it doesn't know what they have. there were different grades of these guns like A, B, C, and engraved and could have different wood types used. engraved 1898's are worth 400.00 to 3000.00 chambered in 12 guage. but a 16 guage is so rare that there is no telling what it may be worth. Marlin firearm has issued a bulliten stating that the guns are not safe to shoot due to the lack of records on the guns. also the metalurgy is unknown and could vary.
