your gun was made 1952 .these are very nice shooters in 20 gauge in good shape it will be fine shooter. As far as value its worth about 100 dollars. But as a shooter its worth more than that .As few guns today are as well made, and very few of the new stuff out there will shoot as good or be more practical. These guns are old fashioned classics from your Grandfathers Day

100 dollars made in1952 High Standard wich was owned by Sears & Roebuck .These are good gun wich are still usefull but obsolete and not very popular. They are based on an a H&R pattent wich was owned by sears
The Blue Book of Gun Values says that all of the JC Higgins (Sears brand) guns have no collector value, only shooter value. Also, the 583.22 is one of the ones that was recalled by Sears.

I got mine 3 years ago. Looks almost new. Great gun for rabbits and pheasants. I paid $100 and am really happy with it.
