1959 to 1989
According to the Remington website, there are three possible years for the manufacture of your Remington UMC 380, with a serial number of PA 50795. Those years are 1995, 1968, or 1923.
The Remington Model 1903 with serial number 3172768 was manufactured in 1942. This model is part of the M1903 Springfield rifle series used by the U.S. military during World War II. The production of these rifles by Remington began in 1941 and continued into the war years.
Made in 1918. 100 years old this year.
Many Remington rifles manufactured prior to 1968 did not have serial numbers. You can find a date code on the left side of the barrel near the breech. The Remington Society website http://www.remingtonsociety.com contains a page that contains a listing of the date codes and their corresponding months and years.
Remington firearms are dated from a 2 or 3 LETTER code stamped on the left side of the barrel, very close to the frame. The Remington Collector Society webpage has the table of letters and years.
They only way to do it it is to comb through all the serial numbers of all the different types of shoutguns Remington has made the past 150 or so years. Remington.com has a history section in its Sportsman's Library that you might be able to use to narrow it down.
The Remington Model 11-87 was manufactured from 1987 onwards, and to determine the specific manufacture date for a particular serial number like 444542, you would typically need to consult Remington's serial number lookup resources or contact their customer service. Serial number databases often provide information based on the specific range of production years for each model. Without access to those resources, I can't provide an exact date for that serial number.
I bought my used Black Nylon 66 about 12 years ago for a little more than $100. Of course there are several versions of this rifle in different colors of plastic and different magazines. I hear the clip-fed version is not as diserable.
They went from A,B,C etc every 5 years starting in I believe 1970 BUT they all are date code stamped ;) See related links for information on the Remington Society of America.
Remington used a series of letters stamped on the barrel to indicate month and date of manufacture. IF the barrel is original to the gun, that should give you a pretty close answer. Letters are on the left side, just forward of the receiver. The Remington Collectors website has a chart of the letters, and the corresponding years.
