Magnum is a word that means large- and at one time, was most commonly used with wine bottles larger than standard. When the .357 was being developed in 1935, the creators looked for a word to describe this larger, more powerful cartridge- and Magnum it was. In much earlier days, the term Express was used (Express trains were fast movers)- so you had names like the Holland & Holland .600 Nitro Express.

.44 Magnum
The Desert Eagle .50 cal is a ridiculously large handgun that was developed by the gun company, Magnum Research.
It was first created by Remington, based on developmental work from several people, most notably Elmer Keith.
The Desert Eagle is a pistol, and some of the cartridges it is available in are marketed as Magnum cartridges, including the .357 Magnum, .41 Magnum, and .44 Magnum. The .50 Action Express is not, however, billed as a Magnum cartridge.

The .22 Magnum wasn't invented until the 1960's, so any "1871" handgun chambered for it is a reproduction.
