There is usually a screw on the top of the receiver in front of the hammer or a pin through the side of the receiver holding the firing pin in.

You need a gunsmith.
To replace the firing pin in an H&R Topper shotgun, first ensure the firearm is unloaded and safe to handle. Remove the barrel by unscrewing it from the receiver, then locate the firing pin inside the bolt assembly. Use a punch or small tool to carefully drive out the old firing pin, and then insert the new firing pin in its place, ensuring it is seated correctly. Reassemble the shotgun by reattaching the barrel and performing a function check.
It will be around 65 dollars for this pin. This is an easy fix to get your shotgun working well again.
Best left to a gunsmith

Close, but no cigar. Your Montgomery Ward's shotgun Model 6OOERI is the Remington model SPT 58. You can get the firing pin from gunpartscorp.com for $12 plus hipping. It is part number 100170D.
TAKE IT TO A GUNSMITH!Seriously. Without being able to examine the weapon, there isn't a person in their right mind who would even ATTEMPT to diagnose the issue. It could be any NUMBER of things, from firing pin to springs to trigger or even ammunition. Until you have that weapon checked out by a licensed gunsmith it should be considered unsafe.
