Get a copy of the Gun Digest Asembly/Disassembly instructions for centerfire rifles. The Marlin Mod 36 is included.
Don't know if this will help, but I'm in the same boat as you. I just inherited one, with no instructions. I "googled" Marlin Rifles and their Model 60 looks to be pretty close in appearance - I notice the safety is in a different place. I was able to download that manual, and plan on trying it on my 987. The first step should be to read the owner's manual. You can request a paper copy from marlin, or go the the link below that says MARLIN, and it will take you to the owner's manual. Check that the rilfe is unloaded before performing ANY maintenance.
You can contact Marlin directly at their 800 number, as they will send you a owner's manual. The model 60 is still made.
