There is no serial number on the Mossberg 190. This model was made in the 1950's before serial numbers were mandated by our friendly government. Many manufacturers did put on serial numbers before this but not Mossberg on this model.

The serial number on a Winchester model 53 is on the bottom of the receiver, just behind the foregrip stock.
THAT NUMBER LOOKS LIKE A SERIAL NUMBER NOT A MODEL NUMBER. IF IT IS LOCATED UNDER THE STOCK JUST BEHIND THE TRIGGER GUARD IT IS A SERIAL OR PRODUCTION NUMBER NOT A MODEL NUMBER.
Earlier model, 1887, of which I have one, serial number is located inside back. Mine has hinged back, and model number is stamped in the wood, on the left.
