It may not have one. Serial numbers were not required by law on rifles and shotguns until 1968.
The serial number to a browning shotgun made in the year 1989 will have the letters PN found some where in the serial number.
Serialization wasn't required until 1969. If it was made after that date, the serial number will be easily found on the receiver. If it is older it probably won't have one.
Try the receiver, barrel, forend
That patent date is found on shotguns manufactured by J. Stevens Arms & Tool Co.
Depending on the model it can be found on the bottom of the receiver or on the barrel. how to find the year of a belguim browning over and under shotgun by the serial number 53125
The serial number on a Savage Arms Stevens Model 940A 16-gauge shotgun is typically located on the underside of the receiver, near the trigger guard. It may also be found on the barrel, often stamped or engraved. If you're having difficulty locating it, check the owner's manual or manufacturer's website for specific guidance.
It would have to be on the receiver to comply with Federal Laws. But keep in mind that firearms did not require to have serial numbers on them until the "Gun Control Act of 1968". So if your firearm was manufactured prior to that year there was no requirement for it to have a serial number. Most firearms made prior to '68 do not have serial numbers. I know that there were model 58's around at least as early as the mid 1950's so there is a good chance your shotgun does not have a serial number.
Check the receiver sides and bottom and the barrel
I have a Stevens Visible Loading .22, adn the serial number is on the underside of the rifle, on the extended metal that goes from the trigger guard into the stock. It's quite visible. Ed
i am not 100 percent sure but i think it would be found on the barrel.
To identify the serial number on a Boito shotgun, first examine the receiver, as it is typically where the serial number is located. Look for a series of numbers and possibly letters stamped or engraved onto the metal surface. In some models, the serial number may also be found on the barrel or under the forend. If you have difficulty finding it, consult the owner's manual or contact the manufacturer for guidance.
