That model (Marlin model 336 RC) began it's manufacturing run in 1946.
Can't say about the 1870 part of your question.
The serial number in the RC is located UNDER the stock, aft of the trigger (with the lever open).
Well, the Marlin 336 was not made in 1870. The serial number may be found under the lever on the lower tang of the reciever. On newer rifles, it is on the upper tang to the rear of the hammer.
Just include the serial number, and any letter that proceeds the serial number if applicable.I then can get you the date of production.
I do believe that Marlin did start in 1870, your rifle with a serial no. starting with "T" was made in 1960 S-'59 R-'58.............. U-'61 V-'62.........................
the cost 3030 cal 336sc
1870 is a continuation of the first line Marlin firearms Company Est. 1870 the model of the gun is 336 and is .35cal i believe they started making them in that cal in 1950's
Marlin has used both model, and serial numbers since they made their first handguns in 1870. However, this did not always include .22 rifles, as they were not always required to have a serial number, until 1968. Many Marlin .22 rifles from the post WWII to 1968 time were not serial numbered. Model numbers were always used, but some models were not marked with the model number. The model 1881, 1888, and 1889 Marlins were not marked with the model, but they were cataloged as these models.
