Some Marlin Model 56 did not have a stamped serial number. The Firearms Control Act of 1968 required serial numbers to be stamped on weapons and since the Model 56 began production in 1955 it was not required. While Marlin did stamp some, they discontinued the practice saying it was non productive.
Probably no more the $90 since it lacks a serial number. It may be looked on as possibly stolen and many gun dealers want no part of it.
I have one & have been told it is a model 56 Marlin
Your Winchester model 56 was made in the year 1928 with the serial number you have supplied.Winchester made 2,200 model 56,s in 1928 in which yours is one.
Serial numbers were required per a 1968 firearms act. Marlin .22's produced prior to this were not required to have serial numbers stamped on the weapon and marlin decided it was not productive to do so. Although they did stamp some earlier models they discontinued the practice. My Marlin model 56 made in 1960 also has no serial number.
The model 56 was produced from 1955-1964. The "F" prefix to a 336 designates a 1949 date of manufacture. Hope this helps. Vall
It is a Model 56 Marlin It is a Model 56 Marlin
i order two for my model 56 on e-gunpart.com.
$50-$250 depending upon condition.
I have a Marlin Firearms Co. 12 gage, bolt action shotgun.
My guess is that it is the serial number. The model 56 was the first of the Marlin "Levermatic" line of guns that featured a clip magazine and a very short throw lever that allowed the shooter to cycle rounds through the gun more quickly than a standard lever action rifle. From it came the Model 57 and 57M which were tubular magazines of the same gun and the model 62 which were .256 win. mag and .30 carbine versions of the "Levermatic".
it's 56 years old (1952)
The value of a Marlin Model 56 Levermatic in .22 caliber can vary depending on its condition, rarity, and any additional features it may have. On average, a Marlin Model 56 Levermatic in good condition can be worth anywhere from $300 to $600. However, pristine examples or those with unique characteristics can fetch higher prices in the collector's market.
