The serial # can be found inside on the frame and the crane when you open up the cylinder. The two numbers should be the same.

The year of manufacture for your pistol is 1877 .In 1878 the serial numbers started at #3000. You can contact colt and they can supply you with the date the gun was shipped from the warehouse and to where it went.
