If you want a lever get the Marlin, if you want a pump get the Remington, if however you want a semi-auto get a Ruger.
The Remington 572 is clearly a better gun but it's also 2x the cost!
Remington didn't make a model 54, Winchester did but not in 22 (that I know of), Marlin model 54 is a shotgun.
you load the gun in the buttstock
I purchased a Marlin 39AS golden this week off of gunbroker.com for $271.00 plus shipping $25. According to Modern Gun Values 15th edition 2009 verison the gun in very good condition is valued at $325 the gun I purchased is very good or better.
You can find a bolt for the Marlin 22 through many gun catalogs including the Numrich catalog. You might also find the bolt at most gunsmith shops or gun repair businesses.
The value of that gun would be about anywhere from 150 to 200.

Whatever amount someone is willing to pay. A better question would be, what is thia gun valued at?

The Remington 22 special (used in model 12, 121, etc) is the same as a 22 WRF Occasionally Winchester or CCI will make a run of ammo but Remington doesn't anymore. Your have to search gun shows if you want to find some.
