There is no exact date that the staple gun was invented. However, the very first staple gun was made for King Louis XV of France in the early 18th century.
Perhaps, you mean gun "tacker" or staple gun tacker. The advantage of a flooring staple gun is that carpet layers can staple the carpet to the wood underneath, ordinary staplers cannot do this since they are to weak to go through both the carpet and the wood.
No they don't. What actually happens is a hammer hits the staple from behind, the hammer is the same size as the staple to stop any distortion.
