Unless marked in some other way, no way to know. Many makers at the turn of the century would "brand" their wares if a big enought order was placed.

Your Western Field model SB-312 double barrel shotgun was made for Montgomery Wards(western field) by the savage arms company.The Savage model 540D shotgun is the same shotgun as yours.If you go to the savage web site they may have more info on this model?
This question can't be answered as serial numbers are not unique to a single firearm. Many manufacturers could have made a firearm with that serial number. The only way to answer this is to have a knowledgeable person look at the shotgun - most makers identified their product somewhere.
Need to know who made it and all markings on it to even begin to hazard a close guess.
