In Homer's "The Odyssey," Telemachus, the son of Odysseus, orders an assembly of the citizens of Ithaca. He calls the assembly to address the suitors who are consuming his father's wealth and to seek news of his father’s fate. Telemachus hopes to rally support from the Ithacan leaders and assert his own authority in the absence of Odysseus.
