yes the butt stocks are the same the barrels are also the same the only difference ison the 58 you need to have two holes drilled into the barrel. the holes allow the pressure to eject the shells.

Which barrel interchanges with a Remington model 58?

The only on besides the 58 is the 878 barrel. You can drill an 870 barrel for gas ports (you must be very careful for port placement) and that will work. The only on besides the 58 is the 878 barrel. I need a 12ga barrel for a Remington sportsman 58?

Hi I took and 870 Barrel and had gas ports drilled into barrel and it works.. I'm not sure that Remington would approve but you might check it out with a gunsmith and get his opinion. Again I did it but that doesn't make it right so I recommend you run it by a gunsmith and see if see a problem.. I did with a slug barrel 20 years ago and have not had any problem.

How do you determine age of Remington Sportsman 58?

By the serial number and markings on the barrel.

How long was the Remington Model 58 and will a Remington 870 express barrel fit on a model 58?

Don't even think about trying that. The two are not compatible. The Model 58 came with standard barrel lenghts of 26, 28 or 30." If you go to www.gunbroker.com, there are usually model 58 parts listed - including bbls. The main difference between the 58 and 870 bbls are the gas ports (no ports on the 870.) There almost certainly are different hardening procedures in the area of the ports - so the previous answer is the best advice. DON'T DO IT! Not true. I purchased a new 870 barrel with screw-in chokes and had a competent gunsmith drill the port holes through the retaining ring for about $30.00. I installed it on my Model 58(Magnum)and have used it for years with absolutely no problems; come to think of it, it has never jammed once. Now I can shoot 3" steel through a neat old gun - the poor man's 11-87! As far as hardening goes, not to worry. The alloys used in the new 870 barrels (at least the stock Wingmaster barrels; I'm not sure about the Express barrels) are light-years ahead of the softer steel used 50 years ago. The trick is to find a gunsmith who knows his stuff. You might want to try Ahlman's Guns in Morristown, MN (507) 685-4243.

What stock can fit a Remington Sportsman 58?

You have answered your own question.

Will a Remington 1100 stock fit on a sportsman 58?

No, a Remington 1100 stock will not fit on a Sportsman 58. The two shotguns have different designs and stock attachment mechanisms, which means they are not interchangeable. The Sportsman 58 is an older model with a different mounting system compared to the Remington 1100. Therefore, if you need a replacement stock for a Sportsman 58, you will need to find one specifically designed for that model.

Looking for history of Remington Sportsman. Is there information on history of aRemington Sportsman?

The "Sportsman" is the Model 58. It was made from 1956 - 1962 and was the first gas operated automatic that Remington made. It was replaced by the Model 1100 in 1963. A variation is the 878, that uses a similar gas system. the model 58 utilized a L/H gas control knob that was also the magazine tube cap. You used the 'L' setting for light loads and the 'H' setting for heavier loads. Both the 58 and 878 used an 870 barrel with gas ports drilled near the barrel band. They were three shot capacity.
