Few of the Stevens .22's were serial numbered before 1969, so most likely any number will be a "batch number" instead of a serial number. These numbers often restarted before 10,000 was reached as they were only needed to make the gun unique from any others still in the factory.
on top, behind the loading gate, next to hammer
Serial numbers are usually on the left side of the barrel near the breech (loading port)
The serial number is on the left side of the loading port, in front of the model number. It may be under the black piece of rubber plastic.
Flip the gun over and look around the loading port, it should be stamped into the receiver.
What markings are present on the revolvoer? Is it a top break or does the cylinder swing out for loading? on top by the cylinder there is a hinge, the tip of the barrel swings upwards
It is located on the bottom forward edge of the receiver frame (forward of the loading port). If your Model 1897 is a Take Down model, it will also be stamped on the bottom of the Take Down extension ring (and will be located directly above the serial number stamped into the receiver frame). Bert H.
Model 686 (plus/seven shot). Covers several barrel lengths. Should be visible on the inside of the yoke.
model number is always smaller than serial
Have you found out the age of this unit yet? I have the same model number with no visible serial number and am curious as to the exact age as well. thanks
e The serial number you listed is not a Model 58 serial number. the serial number starts with an "S"
You can not tell the model number with just the serial number.
The serial number on a Glenfield Model 30 can typically be found on the right side of the receiver, near the loading port. It is usually stamped or engraved into the metal surface. Additionally, the serial number may also be located on the barrel of the rifle, typically near the chamber. It is important to note that the exact location of the serial number can vary slightly depending on the specific production year and model of the firearm.
