Unless it's left in the sun for a long time or if it's wet, wool is much better for maintaining an internal body heat. However, leather can get quite hot in warm weather and doesn't make you colder when it gets wet.
Leather is a breathable material that makes it an ideal clothing item for almost every season. However, if you get a leather jacket with a thick inner lining such as fur, polyester, etc, it sure will keep you warm in freezing cold weather. However, with lining material such as satin or mesh, you can wear it even in summer evenings.
It depends on the material of the jacket. Usually, machine washing should be done on a delicate cycle using a cold water wash, such as Woolite. It would be wise to let the jacket air dry, smoothing it out as soon as the washer ends to prevent wrinkles and/or shrinking. I would not advise washing leather.
Wearing jackets keep you warm i would think you would wear a jacket?
