Native grasses that are meant to be grazed by herbivores, both wild and domesticated. In the Rocky Mountains, the very top of the mountains don't have enough soil to grow lots of grass. Only the little patches of soil available is used by the tougher grasses and forbs (and a couple tough evergreens) that can establish themselves in these awkward crevices and ledges.
Because of the difference in climate - some crops grow in warm climates and some thrive in cold climates.
Crops that can grow in cold areas include cold-hardy vegetables like kale, broccoli, and spinach, as well as grains like barley and rye. Some fruit trees, such as apples and pears, can also thrive in colder climates. Additionally, root vegetables like carrots and potatoes are well-suited for growing in cold regions.
This depends on the particular crop but many seeds need to have a period of cold to trigger dormancy or they will not grow the next year and then they need the hot summer to actually grow! (Some crops do not need the cold winter and dormancy period and so they can grow year long in how climates.)
can grow many different crops
The kind of climate that crops need varies depending on the actual crop. For example, hot peppers, watermelons, and basil grow best in hot climates while beets, cabbage, and carrots require cold weather to grow.
Germs cannot survive in both warm and cold climates but many germs have a ability that they adapt the warm and cold climates after some time

Some fruits do better is warm climates while others will only grow in cold or temperate climates.
it is too cold for crops to grow
Peonies need a period of cold to flower so in most temperate climates you can grow peonies.
