I think it either dies or you could go to Home Depot and get a anti freeze tarp and put that over it over it? You could cut the plant back to 6 inches, place the T T in a dark, cool place like a basement or garage, water VERY sparingly when dry. In early spring bring out into a sunlit area in daytime, water well with a diluted all purposevegetable food. When new growth begins, carefully replace at least 1/2 of the soil. When weather permits, move outside and be the first on the block with tomatoes. Another thing you can do if you have a bright window receiving at least 6 hours of sun a day is to cut the plant back, place in dark place for 6 weeks, then in bright window. Water and feed as usual. You may get lucky and have a few tomatoes along the way. Tomato plants can live for years. A lot of people do not realize that.

What she said. Plus, one can use sunlight bulbs.

I am in zone 6- I cut off the plant- dismantled the container, putting dirt into another garden, and discarded the plant. I will start over next year with fresh soil and new plant- they are inexpensive.
