Grey can certainly be a warm colour. Most people believe the easiest way to get grey is to mix black and white, and this does work.

Artists have been using a somewhat more interesting way to achieve "livelier" greys and blacks.

By mixing colours opposite on the colour wheel, you can get a very nearly perfect black for all situations. If you can get those blacks, you can add a bit of white to get greys.

Warm greys tend to have a bit extra red when mixed with green and a bit extra yellow when mixed with purple. The resultant blacks are "warmer" and therefore the greys derived from then would also be "warmer".
