Alfred the great was a viking. Sad Story even though he was great and a viking but whatever... Anyways , Alfred became the King of Wessex, the most powerful small Anglo-Saxon kingdoms at that time. During his rule there was great fear in the land. His first viking attack in England was in 793. A fleet of ships raided the monastery of Lindisfarne. Monks were killed, altar vessels stolen, and beautifully illustrated manuscripts were destroyed . He ruled also other parts in Europe.
If the question is about Alfred the Great, he married Aethelswitha of the Gaini.
In 866, Alfred the Great negotiated a treat with the Danes that divided England. The north and east, between the Rivers Thames and Tees, were given to the Danes and known as Daneslaw. The second half, between Kent and West Mercia, belonged to Alfred.
