Independence from whom? If you mean liberation from the Germans after World War 2: between June 1944 and May 1945. Other than that France has never really gained or lost its independence from anyone, it is a very old nation. The territory was Roman for a while, but by then it was Gaul, not France. Some bits of the country were invaded now and then, but never the whole of it for all I know, until WW2.
