In a failed suicide attempt, Robespierre had shot himself in the jaw, and when the soldiers came to arrest him, they found him almost dead with a shattered jaw and took him away to the guillotine. He eventually really lost his lower jaw when he was executed. He was the only one during the revolution that was guillotined faced upwards, so he could see the blade fall at him. During the fall of the blade, he screamed, so the blade cut right through his mouth, leaving his lower jaw attached to his body, and the upper jaw still stuck to his chopped off head...

Why can you move your lower jaw and not upper jaw?

Because your upper jaw is part of your skull which is connected to your spine and your lower jaw is connected to your upper jaw by a hinge type joint that allows you to move your lower jaw so that we can eat. So therefore we cannot move our upper jaw because that would require moving our head which would move our lower jaw too.
