China was never a Communist country. For one thing, Communism will have to be a worldwide system, not just in one country. And Communism means the end of wages, classes, money, government: this clearly did not apply in China.

China has been a communist country since 1949. Mao Zedong and his communist army fought a long protracted civil war against the government of Chiang Kai-shek, culminating in Chiang fleeing China for the island of Formosa, now known as Taiwan, or Republic of China. In 1949 Mao established himself as leader of the Chinese Communist Party,CCP and subsequently as leader of the newly formed People's Republic of China or PRC.
