The reasons the French Revolution started were
1. Social and Political Inequalities
2. Economic debt of the government
3. Influence from the enlightenment and American revolution
4. Outbreak of revolution in 1789
The reasons the American revolution started
1. King George III of Britain was a tyrant by the standards of James Otis and other colonial rebels.
2. Colonists in America wanted to break free of Britain to gain there own independence.
3. The kings neglect of the colonies.
4. Colonists being taxed without being represented "Taxation without Representation."
The Enlightenment, a period during the eighteenth century in which reasoning and logic dominated public opinion rather than religion or tradition, was a major turning point in global history. Ideas such as equality, brotherhood, and financial growth for the lower classes fueled political change both in the Americas and in Europe.
These concepts directly influenced the American Revolution. Colonists had long been frustrated by over taxation and under representation by their mother country, England. Many enlightenment ideas are illustrated in both the Declaration of Independence and the US Constitution. Checks and balances and the concept of a two house legislature were both taken from the Enlightenment.
The successful revolution in the American Colonies inspired the suffering citizens of France. Overtime, the incorporation of Enlightenment ideals and frustration with a lavish royal court fueled the French Revolution, as well.

Well, the American Revolution ended up with the United States. In short, that's what the outcome was. As for the French Revolution, it didn't end so nicely. The French weren't lucky enough to have leaders like the American Revolution did. Their leaders were into bloodshed, and they killed a ton of people, tried to establish a democracy, but their efforts failed. Once again, as some politicians, namely Alexander Hamilton and John Adams, prophesied, they were back under the spectrum of despotism, but this time under Napoleon. The American Revolution influenced the French in that they were spurred to start their own revolution. The French, however, split the nation further. To some, like Thomas Jefferson, the French Revolution was just the French embodying the American cause, and those who agreed with him gravitated towards the Democratic Republican party. But to others, like Alexander Hamilton (ever terrified of mob rule), the French Revolution was a horrifying scene of anarchy and despotism, and those turned to the orderly British government as a better model - the Federalists. So here was another issue the country was split over. In addition to fiscal policies and authority of the government, there was now the question - what country are we to align with?
