In the 1940s, several countries offered to accept evacuees fleeing the turmoil of World War II. Notably, countries like the United States, Canada, Australia, and certain Latin American nations provided refuge to those escaping persecution and violence in Europe. Additionally, countries such as Sweden and Switzerland were known for their humanitarian efforts in sheltering refugees during this tumultuous period. These offers were crucial for many seeking safety from the horrors of the war and the Holocaust.
Between the 1890s and the 1920s, immigrants to the United States primarily came from countries such as Italy, Germany, Ireland, Poland, Russia, Austria-Hungary, Lithuania, Greece, and Sweden. This period marked a significant influx of people seeking better economic opportunities and escaping political or religious persecution in their home countries. The diverse backgrounds of these immigrants contributed to the cultural mosaic of the United States during this era.
Although considered evacuees at the time, escaping their conquered country (the former South Vietnam); over time they came to be accepted as simply "immigrants", similar to America's Pilgrams who fled from England in about 1620 in 80 foot long wooden boats (which historians prefer to call ships).

Odysseus and his crew land on the cost of the Laestrygones. Antiphates, the king of the Laestrygones pretended to be hospitable while planning on eating Odysseus and his crew. They escaped however they were nearly prevented from escaping by stones the giants were throwing at his ships.
